Furse Announces Numbers from Houston Fundraiser

HOUSTON – Austen Furse, Republican candidate for Texas Senate District 17 today announced the results of his first Houston fundraiser.
“The campaign is progressing rapidly with the support of several key grassroots and community leaders. It is their encouragement that has been the driving force in this campaign,” Furse said.

“We held our first Houston fundraiser last night. I was very pleased to see many old friends as well as plenty of new faces.”

The campaign collected over $120,000 in contributions and a significant number of pledges to be collected before June 30. On the event’s host committee were several of District 17’s best known grassroots and community leaders.

The Houston fundraising reception was hosted at the home Windi and David Grimes. The host letter was signed by some of Houston’s best known Republican campaign financiers: Leo Linbeck, Bill McMinn, John Nau, Bob Perry, Scott Rozzell, and George Strake,” Furse said.

The campaign also is also planning events in Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston and Jefferson counties. Those events will be later this summer.

“These fundraising efforts will underwrite not only extensive paid media, but will support a significant focus on grassroots campaign techniques. I will be releasing an update on our grassroots efforts soon,” Furse concluded.

Austen Furse grew up in Matagorda County. He was appointed by President George H. W. Bush as White House Director of Policy Planning and served in that position until the end of the Bush Presidency. Since then, Furse founded Texans For Tax Limits, which instituted the no-new-tax pledge among Texas legislators. Locally, he led efforts opposing a taxpayer-funded sports stadium, was a co-founder of Let the People Vote, and succeeded in passing a tax limitation measure for Houstonians. Furse has been a board member for causes including Texas Right to Life and the Houston Property Rights Association. Furse worships at St. John the Divine and St. Anne’s Churches in Houston.
